Moving Tips

Below are some useful tips to help you prepare for the ‘big day’.

Checklist

How to prepare for your relocation

  • All electrical items should be disconnected, e.g. computer, stereo, TV, fridges, washers, dryers, lamps

  • Prepare washing machine and fridge according to manufactures directions.

  • Defrost and unpack your fridge/s and freezer/s prior to pick up

  • Dispose of opened food that may go off soon.

  • Sheds, cubby houses, children’s play equipment swing sets should be dismantled prior to pick-up.

  • Assistance will be provided on the day if required.

  • Remove batteries from battery-powered items going into storage.

  • Ensure pets are refined and children stay out of the removalists way at all times during the entirety of the relocation.

  • Before the removalists leave, walk around and check all areas in case of a last-minute pick up

How to pack your boxes

  • Try to use removalist cartons similar in sizes

  • Books and heavy items packed in smaller boxes for easy lifting

  • Very light items such as clothing can be left in drawers for relocation.

  • Boxes should be packed tight, secure and full for easy removal.

  • Boxes should be taped top and bottom securely.

  • Boxes should be clearly marked with the location of the house they need to be placed in. Instructions example: “fragile”, “this side up” should also be clearly written on each box if necessary.

  • Use plenty of bubble wrap or newspaper when packing fragile items.

  • Try to keep boxes under 20kgs in weight.

  • Stack your boxes in neat piles for quick and easy pick up on relocation day

  • Don’t forget to pack a separate box of essential items for your first night in the new house in case of a later delivery.

Delicate and Fragile Items

  • Place newspaper, linen or bubble wrap on the bottom of boxes for padding.

  • Wrap everything individually in butcher/newspaper. Start with heavier items of crockery (e.g. plates, large bowls) on the bottom and work your way to the top with lighter items

  • All plates, cups, glasses and vases should be packed into boxes in an upright position

  • Lots of padding should be placed between layers of crockery and around the edges of the box

  • Newspaper or bubble wrap should be used to top off your boxes so that the box is firm when closed. This avoids the box from being crushed when it is stacked and in transit.

  • Please mark boxes that contain glass wear or delicate ornaments etc as FRAGILE.

  • Never use plastic bags for fragile items.

Flammables

  • All gas bottles, lawnmower tanks, whipper snipper, motor bike containers are to be emptied prior to moving, unless the customer is responsible for relocating these items.

  • We cannot transport any pressurized cans or flammable substances

Garbage

  • Dispose of all household waste, garbage and broken items prior to relocation.

  • Book a rubbish removalist ahead of time.

Unfriendly Pets

  • Unfriendly/vicious pets such as dogs should be confined in locations such as laundries or chained up to prevent any unexpected attacks.
